I like this fight between Pittsburgh’s Bill Guerin against Carolina’s Tim Gleason because both sides get their chance to get some shots in. There’s no doubt that Gleason wins the early part of the fight but when Guerin piledrives him into the ice and then throws a few forearms to the face, it evens the score.

As weird as it is to believe, over the last decade the second-best city for championships has been Pittsburgh. Sure, the Pirates are miserable, but 2 Steelers championships, a Penguins Cup and multiple late-round playoff trips for both teams shows that the Pittsburgh is a force to be reckoned with. On the heels of success comes entrepreneurs eager to exploit it for their own gain and the Steel City is no exception.
If you’re a big-time Penguins or Steelers fan forget replica jerseys, t-shirts or beer cozies, there’s only one true way to show everyone how much you care; “tobacco pipes.”
Now, I’d never get one of these, not my style (or teams) but if I had to choose, you gotta go with the Penguins one right? I mean, the color scheme is just so much better, and let’s face it, style matters.
For Saturday’s Penguins game, the fans at the Igloo were given free Penguins hats. Sidney Crosby knew the burden that put on his team financially and so he decided to make sure the Penguins could recoup that loss, midway through the 3rd period he deposited his third goal of the night into the back of the net. And then the hats, oh how they rained down upon the ice, (check out the 2:14 mark when it is just a torrent of hats flying down to the ice.)
Bob Errey on the Pittsburgh Penguins telecast wanted to let his viewers know what was needed in order to score a goal. It turns out the answer is “ass.” Now we know!
Amidst last night’s Flyers/Penguins game, as the flyers desperately tried to even up the score with 20 seconds left when Mike Richards collided with the Penguins’ goaltender. Kris Letang is a defenseman for the Penguins and so he defended his goalie, grabbing the Flyers’ Scott Hartnell and wrasslin’ him down. During their mini scrum, according to Letang, Hartnell bit him on the ring finger.
Hartnell after the game told reporters that ”a lot of stuff happens on the bottom of the pile. He had his hands in my face doing the face wash and we’re rolling around. I can’t say what happened.” Not exactly a denial there…
The G-20 Leaders Summit ended in Pittsburgh amidst protests and with the woeful Pittsburgh Pirates honoring the event by having Foreigner play live tonight after their game against the Dodgers. Foreigner, IN CONCERT, AT THE PIRATES GAME, sigh. I can’t believe I’m missing it.
Some people went to the protests to express their opinions about the manner in which the world’s leaders govern, others just like being part of a crowd. For instance, this news crew while highlighting the riot cops and the protesters finds a very unprotest-like banner being held in the crowd.
Is the G-20 anti-Penguin? Has anyone looked into this? Or are the fans just looking for even more protection for Sidney Crosby ever being touched by an opponent?
Attending the Golden Puck Awards in Slovakia, newly-minted Chicago Blackhawk, Marian Hossa, was in attendance to receive the award for best forward. Along with his trophy, Hossa — who left the Pittsburgh Penguins after last year’s Stanley Cup loss to try and win one with Detroit instead (this year’s losers to the Penguins) — was given a goat named Stanley as a joke on his poor decision-making. Since the Slovokian word for goat is “cap”, he won the Stanley Cap! Finally!
You did it Marian!
When true love comes along, if you’re smart, you lock it down and put a ring on it. Alas, for one Pittsburgh resident, that plan didn’t go too well. “Scott” put this ad up on the Pittsburgh’s Craigslist barter board:
Markee cut with 12 little diamonds,Appraised @ 2,500,will take a 1,000 cash or
1,500 dollars worth of penguins tickets must be good seats
Even after crawling through a river of shit, Scott is able to look forward to watching the reigning Stanley Cup champions; he’s a pillar of strength for all men who go through hard times. Scott may have lost the girl he loved, but he still has his team. They’ll get him through this; but don’t get ridiculous, he still wants “good seats.”
Go get ‘em buddy, you deserve it!
Now, the why of this video is a bit beyond me; it’s a parade to celebrate the Pittsburgh Penguins and their Stanley Cup victory but a fan in the crowd is throwing a football. Seems like mixed messages. Regardless, he makes a hell of a throw here and we can always celebrate that.
It’s crazy, it seems like the hockey playoffs just began yesterday. No, I kid, they playoffs in hockey take FOREVER, did you remember that the playoffs began on APRIL 15th!!!! It’ll only be 58 days from start to finish when the puck drops tomorrow for game 7 between the Penguins and Red Wings. 58 days! That seems like a lot. I thought hockey players were tough, they can’t play back to back games or something?
Just to get you in the mood for tomorrow’s final game, here is a delightful flash “game” brought to you by the Detroit Free-Press who have been less than pleased by the way refs call penalties on anyone hitting Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby. Click the picture to get taken to the game. Enjoy!
Hey remember hockey? Yeah, I’m struggling too, the ouster of the Bruins has made these playoffs hard for me to watch, but then there are goals like this super pretty one by the Penguins that remind me that hockey is pretty awesome.
